Can an e-cig be a long term replacement for cigarettes?

Does anyone have any experience/words of wisdom using an e-cig for a significant period of time and not going back to smoking cigarettes? My boyfriend is trying to use e-cigs as a replacement for cigarettes and he's doing well so far, but I wonder if this is something he could keep up for years?

I think it depends on wether he likes vaping or not.

For me it was really easy to get off when I found some juices that I liked. This made me hate the taste and smell of cigarettes, which made it easy to keep vaping.

Problem is now that I might be addicted to vaping.

I'm definitely addicted to vaping and im almost off nicotine completely lol.

No but in all seriousness, this could be something that will finally let him stop smoking and never look back.

For me, as a full flavor menthol smoker that REALLY liked to smoke, it was all about the juice and the right vaporizer. Additionally, when starting out I had to make sure to keep my vape close during those crucial times such as after eating, first thing in the morning, etc. Doing this for a few weeks while only smoking a few at random times, will eventually lead to forgetting to light up a real cig for longer periods of time.

I found a good tobacco juice and mixed it with some Extreme Ice from mtbakervapor.com. Regular menthol flavored juices didnt cut it, I needed the extreme ice to get it to where my real menthol cigs were, mint wise.

I made sure to order the juice in a 50/50 blend so that I got that really nice throat hit and nice amounts of vapor to go with it. Having a little more vapor than what you get with a real cig was enticing to me and kept me vaping

As for the nicotine, just make sure he doesn't downgrade the mg amount to fast, there is no rush. Right now it's all about breaking the physical habit of smoking first.

After 7 months, I can't bear to light up a real cig let alone smoke the thing, and I have tried a few times just to check my progress. I end up having to wash my mouth out with a good hit off my vape lol.

It really depends. You said he's trying, but he's not doing well. So at this point, you need to pinpoint WHY it's not working very well for him.

For example, does he not like the flavor? Is it the weight of the device? My mom actually had trouble switching the first time because she missed the physical action of striking the lighter. When she switched to a device that had the same "clicking" sound as striking a lighter, she realized that it made it a little easier for her, as silly as that might sound.

Thanks for the response, I will definitely pass it along. I'm going to have to make sure he keeps his vape close because after meals, a stressful day at work, etc I can tell he is itching for a cigarette.

Do you smoke inside? If not, it's another great argument for vaping!

Yes. You can slowly dose off the nicotine level until it reaches 0, you will save yourself a lot of money and after a month of vaping you will get used to it and you will love it more than cigars!

    I think that it can.
If you see smoking as a habit that involves inhaling stuff, vaping might as well be another habit of the same kind.
I know a couple of people who have started vaping without ever having smoked. I actually thing that vaping might be the "smoking fo the future"

From personal experience, I would say, definitely yes. I used to smoke about 2 packs every day for nearly 15 years. Once I got into vaping, I haven`t spent a single dime on a pack of cigarettes for 1 year. Vaping is the only thing that ever helped me get off cigs and it is still doing it`s job. I would recommend it to anyone looking to get off smoking.

It depends on the person as well. Some people might be just afraid to change, while the other will never feel good without the taste of a real cigar in their mouth.

I haven't smoked in almost a year in a half. I think e-cigs can be a long term replacement, but I also think you have to get the right e-liquid first. I tried for just over a year to switch to e-cigs, but I never really managed to until I quit chasing sweet flavors, which I thought I would like, and went after menthols. I didn't think I would like menthols because I never liked them as a smoker, but now they are the only e-liquids I will vape. The lesson here is that you may need to forget whatever you think you will like and try a bunch of different types of flavors.
I have occasionally had urges to smoke anyway. When this happens, I go buy a disposable tobacco flavored e-cig from a convenience store. Vaping that makes me turn back to my normal e-cig every time because they taste so terrible.

I know that vaping has saved me a lot of time, money and health, probably. I wouldn't be the same person if I smoked regular cigs.

I agree that liquid is most definitely important if you want to truly replace smokes with e-cigs. You have to find a liquid that is sufficiently concentrated and provides you with the same satisfaction that a smoke does. But finding such a liquid is not that hard, seeing as there are hundreds of different flavors and nicotine concentrations available.

Pretty much depends on his willpower. I also want to replace cigarette smoking with vaping, so I guess it's a good option. However, i am very determined. Wish him good luck with this!

Most definitely ecigs can completely replace normal cigarettes. For me, it was the nicotine I was seeking in a cigarette. As long as I get my nicotine I am satisfied. Eliquid for ecigs has nicotine, and I have no problem with a nicotine addiction. I need it, I use it. Thats all there is to it for me. I'd still be smoking cigarettes if it wasnt for the delicious flavors and health benefits of ecigs vs regular cigs. Like I said , nicotine is just a mild stimulant comparable to caffeine. They are practically interchangeable. Having a vape is no worse for your health than a cup of coffee. I'll use nicotine in the form of vapor until the day I die. I do not see a problem with it.

I wouldn't say that e-cigarettes are a replacement for cigarettes themselves, but for the habit.

I have yet to find an e-cig that comes close to what smoking an actual cigarette is. You're not really going to find a liquid that tastes exactly like smoking your favorite brand, either.

I've seen a lot of people take up vaping only to go straight back to cigarettes, because they're in the mindset that it's going to be the same, but healthier. It's not.

The most important thing is finding a mod you like, and finding the right liquid for you. I gave up on a lot of times because I just hadn't found anything I really loved. Once I got that figured out, it became a lot easier to reach for my e-cig than a pack of cigarettes.

My uncle has been off cigarettes for over 3 years now and only vapes, and he loves it. He only smokes a cigarette if he's out of liquid or something broke on his mod and he's waiting for a replacement.

One of the biggest mistakes I made when I first started, was going for the cheap stuff. You might find a kit for $30 but it probably won't last long and then you'll be right back where you started. I see this happening a lot with people who are just looking for an easy solution to quit smoking.

Also, it creates the feeling that you smoke a cigarette, so it would make a very great long term replacement. Not to mention it's also tastier. And it makes your taste buds feel "alive" again.

I think a e cig can replace cigarettes in the long run. As for me, right now I'm currently using both, but I do plan to stop smoking cigarettes all together. I think it is possible if you continue to work at it. Less cigarette, more e cig, and at some point the e cig is all you'll need. So yes, I do think it is possible.

I have found e-cigs and excellent and permanent replacement for traditional cigarettes. I'm probably different from some smokers as I do not need to taste the tobacco. I LOVE the menthol!

I use a menthol flavored fluid with 0.6% nicotine and will stick with it. Funny thing is I ran out of fluid once, and I never considered buying a pack of cigarettes to hold me over.

That's a nice "achievement". Well, let me guess: you used to smoke menthol flavored cigarettes back then, right?
