I've been considering box mods because I think they look really cool. What things should I know before buying? Are there safety hazards? I bought an Ego-T starter kit and those are the only batteries I've ever used, so I really know nothing about it. Any help would be appreciated.

I haven't gotten into box mods quite yet but from my understanding a lot of people go with box mods because (depending on how it's built) it allows you to use two batteries that run either in series which puts out the combined voltage from the two batteries or in parallel which puts out the voltage of whatever is left in one battery but results in a longer time between charging.

Running the batteries in series is what's called "stacking" its like what you would do with a tube style mod when you use extensions to make it long enough to hold two batteries. Stacking batteries isn't usually recommended due to safety issues and i've only seen super sub hm cloud chasers using them but im not really sure if box mods built to run in series have added protections to help with failures.

I myself am waiting for the DNA30 from http://www.hanamodz.com/ to come out because it only uses one battery and is variable volt/watt and you can vape at up to 30 watts (but you need to make sure you have a really good battery).

Additionally, I would try to check for reviews on say YouTube for any mod you are looking at and see what other people think before you buy

Wow! Very cool suggestion. I am definitely interested, but will have to save up. I really like the idea of the ohms display. I was checking out the much cheaper Innokin iTaste MVP 2.0, which also has that, since I found it on sale, but after watching a video review, I got scared away because apparently it takes a great deal of force to hold down the button. Thanks for the help!

I don't normally try to force clones down peoples throats but I have to use them due to all my cash going to raising three kids lol but I thought I would mention that I heard a company is selling pre orders for an exact 1:1 Hana Modz DNA30.

Here is a link on the alibaba wholesale site of just one company's clone so I would imagine that resellers will soon be adding them to their shops and websites.

There are preorders on ebay for the clones ranging anywhere from 90-180 bucks but there is no reason to jump on it now because soon enough they will be down to 50-60 bucks I bet.
